Advice

Ok so I want to paint this wall as an accent wall in my living room. My couches are brown and my carpet is white/beige. I feel like all we have is brown and beige. Any suggestions on what color?

Creatively

If you haven't noticed, our new blog has gone through a lot of templates since inception. Basically Melinda keeps choosing really girly ones. I finally found one that we both agree on but there are some kinks to work out. Be patient if something looks funny.

Where did my baby go? He is growing up....

The other morning Jason and I were in the front room. He was in the corner playing with his toys and I was checking my e-mail. Jason walks over and says "Mama, a bath." As he walked towards the stairs to the bathroom I realized that he had already gotten ready for his bath; he is completely naked with his clothes and diaper in a pile by his toys. I hurried to finish up what I was doing and went upstairs only to find the bathroom door closed with Jason inside. I opened the door to find him holding the toothpaste, carefully dabbing his tooth brush on it and then actually brushing, not just sucking on his tooth brush. After about 10 seconds of brushing he says "Mama, I done" and then puts his tooth brush and toothpaste away in the drawer, turns around and climbs into the bath and sits down. I was thinking the whole time wow this is great! So, a little later when it was my time for a shower I left Jason playing in his room while I ran to the bathroom for my "I better hurry and shower as fast as I can while he is occupied morning ritual." As I was showering Jason yelled "Mama, I did it." Needless to say this cut my shower short. If Jason was that excited about doing something on his own, it probably was something he isn't supposed to do on his own. I was right. He was in my room standing in front of my mirror with his whole face covered in my makeup. Of course when he saw me he said "Mama, I done" walks over to my towel, wipes his fingers off, walks to the bathroom and puts the makeup in the drawer.

For a while now Jason has been a good helper and loves to put our dishes away when we are done eating. He usually runs them to the sink and then runs back yelling "I did it!" Today he was a little too excited about putting away my dish.

Yesterday afternoon we decided our grass, though patchy in areas still, was getting long enough to mow. So we got out our "green" lawn mower and actually did it! Jason even helped and loved it! If he is getting so grown up then it is time for him to start earning his keep around here :-).
According to Jason this is proper lawn mowing attire :-)

You know it is fall when....

...you visit an farm and run through a hay maze! Today for our playgroup we went to a local apple farm. The kids loved seeing some animals, running around, and jumping in a huge blown up apple. We even got to sample some apple cider and eat apples. I love fall.

Jungle Fun

Saturday we drove over to Vancouver, Washington to visit my brother, sister-in-law and my wonderful nephews. Before we made it to their house we stopped at Kids Club and Fitness. It has the "Northwest's largest jungle playland." We love it! The best thing about it is that mom and dad are free, but the jungle play land is so fun we probably play just as much as Jason. Jason's favorite part by far is the ball pit.

Check out this website to see more. It's pretty amazing stuff.

Our beautiful lawn....

OK this is for all of you who saw our back yard when we moved here. Only you will appreciate the difference and see our hard work :-). We finally have some grass growing. It has some pretty big bare spots, but it is actually growing in which is frankly more then I expected. If it doesn't look good by spring I think we may have to break down and just lay down some sod. Who knows it might fill in by then. At least we are making some progress.

Jason and I went to the most beautiful park today. It is called Rood Bridge Park and it is in Hillsboro. It has a stream, lake, beautiful scenery, and great toys. I love it.

Project Project

So this one starts out on my school District's "Gots and Wants" page. I know the name is really dumb but the service is pretty cool. It's actually a lot like craigslist where people in the district can post classified ads for free which are viewable by other staff members. That might not sound the most amazing but you have to remember that there are several thousand faculty members who have access to this little classifieds. So far we have scored big on a Bose audio system and an iPhone both of which were priced at just about half the actual used value price.

The latest and greatest came to me from the transportation department. I was lucky enough to catch the ad only 15 or 20 minutes after it was posted and in essence I won. They were giving away an older Windows 98 laptop that they no longer used and a projector. The projector would shut off every 30 minutes or so and had been serviced by the IT department and deemed irrepairable. Score. It took several hours of troubleshooting before I found a small fan buried deep inside the projector whose bearings were going out and not giving sufficient air flow. $6.99 for a new fan from Fry's Electronics and this puppy is now in business. It's actually a pretty nice projector and gives a bright, crisp picture. Next weekend's project - to build a projector screen. I'll post pictures when the whole theater is set up.

Got Milk?

Jason has become quite the little milk addict. He is up to drinking about a gallon of milk every 2 days. In order to make it last a little longer we have begun watering it down a little and he seems to not mind - as long as it's cold and white, it's milk.

Couple Jason's love for milk and his inevitable discovery about opening the refridgerator and you have the following evidence of his vice. Is he uncultured or just resourceful?
